Week 5: The Preparation for Competition Continues 1.0

The first thing we had to reach an agreement upon as a group was the site, as it can make or break our concept and intention behind the design, and without those elements working out, then the whole project loses its soul.

We knew we wanted an uber urban site; one that is not afraid to put its modernism on full display and make it its main selling point. We came down to three initial proposals:

1-REXKL

2-KL Pavilion

3-Flyover at Bukit Bintang

Each of those locations celebrate a specific aspect of the modern lifestyle, be it the social alcove that is REXKL, socioeconomic one at KL Pavilion, or the bustling street life of Bukit Bintang.

The role of the pavilion would come in and latch onto this urban scenery, providing a contrast in terms of the use of material, as well as how time relatively slows down inside of it. Using this approach we would create a parasitic structure that provides the ideal setting for users to pause and appreciate timber as a construction material, even from laymen's perspective.
