Week 1: Introduction

Though similar in the letters that make the words up, 'innovation' and 'invention' are two entirely separate things.

'Invention' is the original creation of a product that was not previously available. An example of this would be Graham Bell's invention of the telephone.

'Innovation', on the other hand, is the improvement of an already-existent product. For instance, Steve Jobs' take on personal computers; or perhaps Bill Gates', if you're on team Microsoft in this battle between the giants.

When it comes to designers, and especially architects, perhaps it is the most common scenario to be looking for innovative takes in projects, as the field and science tend to heavily rely on the cumulative progression throughout the years.

In this course, it is the main target to successfully adopt the mindset of an innovative designer who seeks new ways of enhancing design to benefit the world around us.
