Terengganu Trip- Day 2.2: Akademi Nik Rashiddin (ANR)

After a solid start to the day, we quickly moved on to the next item on our agenda, Akademi Nik Rashiddin, also known as ANR, which is a wood carving academy.

We began the session with a long-awaited lunch, of which we were encouraged to eat outdoors in one of the gazebos built in the vicinity.

Following that, we joined a quick introductory lecture about the history of the academy and its founder.

After which, we started the tour around the displayed items in the gallery.

The astounding history and process behind the making of each piece was very innovative, with the emphasis on respecting the spirit of each timber piece; a common theme between all the visited destinations so far. And it's true that the spirit of each piece shines through, even after the ageing of many of them.
A variety of materials were used for the pieces, some of which being timber and all of its types, and some being ivory. The different techniques that ostensibly look similar in nature, yet differ in the minor details and mastery are a proof of the passion the founder, Nik Rashiddin, had for the traditional arts.
